A basement with bourbon and boxes

Last night myself and my other half visited Hide & Speak, a pop up bar hosted by Four Roses bourbon in the basement of Shaker & Company in Euston.

The teeny weeny darkened den is scattered with giant raw wooden boxes providing make shift tables and chairs (note to the ladies, wearing tights/silk/chiffon is not recommended)  as well as hessian sack cushions and is entirely lit by candles in jam jars.

A heady aroma of cut wood and roses fills the air.

After Mr R had the longest wait EVER at the bar (seriously I am talking like 25 mins for 2 drinks) a Scoff Law finally passed my lips and was delicious!

As the drinks were on the house for this event I guess we couldn't complain about the waiting time but on a regular night I would expect the service to be a lot swifter.

Open until the end of February, Hide & Speak is a fun take on the speak easy trend, and while the prohibition theme is starting to feel a little 'done' now, I think the simplicity of the interior design concept they have chosen stops it from feeling too try hard and gives it a modern twist.
