Intensive care for damaged hair

Are the ends of your hair weak and brittle from too much lightening, chemical relaxing or heat styling?

If so you need a product which will restore and repair the hair from the inside out.

Protein RX Anti breakage treatment mask from Frederik Fekkai does just that.

Made with an exclusive soy and milk protein complex this treatment is designed to work internally to mend and strengthen the hair to prevent future breakage and has a lovely creamy vanilla fragrance.

Apply after shampooing to towel dried hair, working from the mid lengths to the ends only (conditioning products need not be applied to the root area)

Ideally pin up your hair and wrap in a warm towel or cover with a cap for at least 10-15 minutes.

This is not a wash and go product, if you do not leave it on for the required amount of time you will not allow the ingredients to work their magic.

When it comes to rinsing, use the coolest water temperature that you can stand to have on your head, cooler water allows a more thorough rinse and helps to close the cuticles so that they lie flat allowing better reflection of light and promotion of shine.

This product can be used 1-2 times per week.

All of my product reviews are unbiased and based purely on my experience of using them with clients and on my own hair.

This treatment is my favourite for highly lightened and bleached hair in need of some tlc!

Available at Space NK for £24.

Or alternatively you can book a single treatment with me as an add on service for £5. Please mention at time of booking.

dreamy Diptyque

I have a huge obsession with candles! I love the soft light they create and the mood enhancing benefits of their fragrance.

I am currently burning Diptyque Baies during appointments- this candle has notes of rose and blackcurrant.

I adore Diptyque, the fragrances are so yummy! With their expansion into body care and personal fragrance perhaps there is hope that they may eventually launch a shampoo and conditioner range too, mmmmm imagine just how good your hair could smell!!

GHOSTS (grey haired over stressed twenty somethings!)

Today I read an interesting article on Daily Mail Online about the rise in the number of women going grey in their twenties.

At 26, I myself have recently noticed a couple of white hairs showing up across my parting and it is quite shocking when you witness them for the very first time.

Notice I use the word 'white' and not grey.

There is actually no such thing as grey hair. We perceive people to be various shades of 'grey', but this is just determined by the percentage of white hair they have mixed in with their own natural hair colour.

Some people blame stress where as others believe it is genetically determined.

Whatever the reason there are varying different colouring techniques available to help disguise these white hairs, ranging from allover tints to cover the white hair completely to highlights and lowlights to help blend the white hair away, and what works best for one person can differ to the next, depending greatly on your own natural hair colour and the level of maintenance you are comfortable with.

Primrose Hill and Pugs

Today my brother and I took off for a wander around Camden and afterwards I showed him Primrose Hill.

I love looking out over the city from the top, its such a peaceful spot, and in Summer to sit with a picnic and watch the word go by is bliss and day dream of one day owning a pretty pastel coloured house here.

I always end up wanting a puppy every time I come here too - I saw all kinds of cutesy little ones today on their walkies, including a lovely little pug called Freddy. I love pugs!

Antique chic & cream tea by the sea

In recent years I have become increasingly interested in interior styling.

As a combined result of moving in with the boy and discovering a real passion for hunting out unique and interesting pieces of furniture/accessories for our nest, getting engaged and proceeding to endlessly research wedding styling ideas and recently working part time with the hugely inspirational event planning and styling company By Appointment Only Design, I now enjoy nothing more than a good rummage around an antique shop or home interiors boutique.

Some of my best finds have been our beaten chesterfield sofa and armchair, our vintage trunk which we use as a coffee table and a pair of beautiful chandeliers which were discovered at Kempton Park race course antique fair (take a car, I can guarantee you will buy...lots!!) a lovely fireplace which now has pride of place in our boudoir filled with candles, and today a wooden antique look 'street lamp' inspired lantern which I simply had to have and cradled all train ride home to ensure it arrived back safe and sound!

As a hairstylist and colour specialist I find that my creative streak and eye for detail can naturally be applied to other forms of expression and I get great pleasure from making things look good, whether it be hair, an outfit or a room in my flat!

Today my little brother, my man and I popped down to Brighton for the day.

I have mentioned a couple of my fave interior boutiques from this town before on my blog so today I thought I would tell you about another-Brighton Archictectural Salvage- this place is amazing!

Specialising in fireplaces but also selling all manner of accessories and antiques, this store is an Aladins cave of curios.

Be sure to check out the back yard with its array of brightly coloured ceramic pots and garden mirrors (OMG love the idea of garden mirrors! just need a garden first)

I also couldnt help but drool over the free standing bath which I admire every time I pass Fired Earth it looked extra specially appealing today due to the fact that we have been without hot water in our flat for best part of a week now, imagine a soak in this baby with a nice chilled glass of champers....dreamy!

It was bitter cold in Brighton today and as we passed the cozy inviting light of The Mocked Turtle tea room we were drawn in.

I have never noticed this place before but it is so cute! We had a really scrummy cream tea before catching our train back to London.

Maje and memoirs of a magical moment!

Watching the making of the campaign video for Maje Spring/Summer 11 gave me butterflies.

I recognised the location instantly because it was here on the terrace after dinner and bellinis in Georges restaurant above the Parisian skyline that Mr R proposed!

The model featured is Vanessa Trainer (daughter of novelist Danielle Steele) who is currently the brands muse.

With a figure like that I very much doubt she finished that cake!!

A day trip to Edinburgh

Today we had a little family jaunt up to Bonny Scotland (minus the Father as he was hard at work)

Its years since I last visited Edinburgh! We started with a mooch about the 'Old Town' where, down a side street, I was taken aback when I laid eyes on a very unusual looking lady standing in the doorway of a fortune telling shop.

I actually gasped out loud when I heard her speak and saw her move because I had noticed her out of the corner of my eye but thought she was a mannequin!

Having googled her once home I have discovered that this lady is named Elaine Davidson and is in fact THE most pierced lady in the whole world! Check out the vid I found on Youtube.

We stopped for yummy hot chocolate at 'Chocolate Soup' on Rose Street, and had a peek at The Heart of Midlothian- a heart shaped mosaic built into the pavement on The Royal Mile.

As I tried to take a picture of this I noticed a few passers by spitting on the heart, gross I thought.

My sister then explained that a tolbooth (prison) stood on the site at one time, where executions used to take place.

The heart marks its doorway: the point of public execution. Although now sometimes said to be for good luck, spitting here was originally simply a sign of historic disdain for the former prison.

A popular legend says that by spitting on the heart, one is destined to return to Edinburgh one day.

I do hope to return but couldn't find it in me to spit in public, ewwww.

We headed over to the 'New Town' where we grabbed some lunch and sought shelter from the obligatory Scottish rain, I sampled a Buffalo burger at GBK (yes made from actual buffalo) which was surprisingly nice!

On the way back to the station I noticed a poster in a takeaway for another unusual delicacy which I am yet to sample..battered mars bar...hmm... not sure about that!

preening, Popolo and a pucker cuppa!

Yesterday I took great pleasure in a spot of role reversal, I played the client this time round and had my locks tended to by the lovely Mrs Karimi and Mr Curry at Mops Hairdressing in Newcastle.
Its now all shiny and new again thanks to a glossing colour and much needed trim, thanks guys! xx

I spent the eve catching up with 2 of my fave Geordie girls over cocktails in Popolo.

This is in my opinion THE best place for cocktails in town!

You can choose from the vast menu on offer or tell the master mixologists your favourite flavours and have them custom make a tipple to suit your very own taste buds, these guys really know their stuff, and our barman Matt, who kind of became our own private butler for the night, made the yummiest scrummiest beverages!!

Once home and feeling a little woozy I caught up with my baby bro over a cuppa in my new cutesy little lipstick stained mug- so sweet,I just had to have this!

Crackle nail paint

Now I'm a little slow off the mark on this discovery, my friend was sporting it way before Christmas and it caught my eye while I was doing her hair, but I sampled it first hand today when my sister let me try out hers...

Barry M Instant nail effects-black magic.

This product is amazing!!! I love love love it!!

Apply it over your nail varnish of choice and watch it crack as it dries to reveal an animal print type finish, I love the subtlety of it over my grey varnish, its a winner and a snip at only £3.99.

Barry M having a must have moment, who knew?!

Hair Genie in a bottle

During my 13 years in hairdressing I have sampled a hell of a lot of products!!!

Cleansing, conditioning, styling and finishing-the market is bigger now than ever before and with so many brands claiming the benefits of their products not to mention price points varying greatly, it can be a bit of a minefield for the consumer, and an expensive mistake if you choose something not suited to your hair type.

One product worth investing in is

ok so a genie may not be lurking in there but rub it into your hair and it will grant your wishes for silkier, smoother, softer locks.

I am a huge fan of multi tasking products, and this little beauty is just that.

Enriched with a complex of four precious oils this product can be applied before shampooing as a pre cleanse (I would only recommend this for thicker, coarser hair), before blowdrying as a leave in conditioner, and after blowdrying as a silky smoothing serum.

Each application only requires a drop or two, this is an oil based product and should be used sparingly, always from mid lengths to ends to avoid weighing hair down at the roots.

It smells divine and leaves hair beautifully soft and shiny, just dont be heavy handed with it, apply a little and you can always add more if needed.

Using it every day as part of your routine will help to improve the condition of the ends of your hair resulting in less breakage from brushing and heat styling, I predict that 1 bottle should last a good 9-12 months so it really is an investment and definitely one of my top favourites!
