A bottle of Rioja helps the medicine go down

Ok well not literally, more in a light at the end of the tunnel kind of way.

They say things come in 3's.

In the last fortnight my macbook died and went to hard drive heaven, my engagement ring got damaged and I suffered the most agonising wisdom tooth ache resulting in a week of antibiotics which meant NO ALCOHOL for a whole 7 days.

The latter couldn't have been timed any more inconveniently as it fell right over the weekend of Tapas Fantasticas 2012, an award winning celebration of Rioja wine and Spanish food which I had really rather fancied a mooch along to.

So far this all sounds a bit doom and gloom and I am not one for blogging about negative stuff, only the good, the stuff I love!

Well, things got a whole lot better when the lovely peeps over at Phipps PR offered to send me a bottle of Rioja to enjoy once I had finished taking that pesky medication, so as not to miss out on all the fun.

And so as promised, a bottle of Rioja Gran Familia was delivered with compliments.

Produced by winemakers at Bodegas Castillo De Fuenmayor, this wines emphasis focuses on fruit flavours rather than oak, a contemporary twist compared to other Rioja's.

It is smooth and savoury with a spicy undertone and subtle hints of vanilla, very easy to drink and can be left to improve for up to 3 years.

The average price guide is an unbelievable £6.49 which makes it incredible value!

Recommended to accompany Sunday roast, especially lamb, this wine would be a welcome winning weekend addition to any dining table and will definitely be putting in another appearance at mine in the very near future!

Burger/Lobster/Both

I was in two minds whether to write about the places I ate at last weekend because they are typical scenester magnets and have already been posted on countless blogs already, but then hey, I don't claim to break exclusives here, MY sole reason to blog is to share things which I have seen or done and to spread the good word in the hopes that more like minded people can gain pleasure from them too.
So sod it, here goes . . .

Saturday evening was Burger & Lobster, the budget way to dine in Mayfair without feeling like you are at all depriving oneself.

Rocking up at 7pm we were told we had a 2 hour wait for a table, we left our names on the list and wandered off in search of a drinking den to pass the time, tummies rumbling- this had better be good I thought!

A couple of hours later, a little flushed and giddy from drinking red wine on an empty stomach we were seated.

The menu is simple - burger, fries & salad or lobster roll, fries & salad for a flat rate £20.

grilled lobster, fries & salad is also available at a slightly higher price.

We both opted for lobster roll which was delicious and the cocktails were very good too - so much so that Mr R asking the waitress to show us the lobster tanks post dinner was a challenge as I was lead, a little wobbly, down a spiral staircase in pencil thin heels - not the easiest of tasks!

Great place though with a nice laid back atmosphere and friendly staff.

On Sunday afternoon, being the little piglets that we are, we managed to squeeze in another dinner date, this time at MEATmarket, MEATLiquor's little brother.

On a deck overlooking Jubilee Market Hall in Covent Garden, MEATmarket is more fast food take away joint than table service restaurant, but with the same messy, meaty, burgers as Meat Liquor and an amazing alcoholic slush drink called Miami Nice - half pina colada, half strawberry daquiri- absolute rocket fuel!

This is more the kind of place to grab a bite while out shopping rather than a destination dinner date venue, but a good choice all the same.
